Beyond the Yellow Bin

This National Recycling Week we are calling on the community to become Everyday Recycling Heroes by thinking beyond the yellow bin in their recycling efforts.

Recycling via the yellow bin is now second nature for most people in our community – we are more than comfortable disposing of our paper, cardboard, hard plastics, glass bottles, jars and metal cans in this manner. But what about other items that are recyclable, but can’t be placed in the yellow bin?

 Are they destined for landfill?

Do you know what goes in your yellow bin?

The good news is they don’t have to be! There are now a variety of local and national programs that can help divert these hard-to-recycle items from your red bin and into the correct recycling streams.

What you can do to help send less to landfill?

Spotted a great recycling or reuse idea?

Our community is full of creative ways to reduce waste! Recently, Vibe Coffee House in Wauchope was spotted repurposing milk cartons (not recyclable in our area) as coffee trays—a brilliant way to give items a second life.

If you notice any clever recycling or repurposing ideas around town, let us know: education@pmhc.nsw.gov.au.

We’d love to share them in an upcoming newsletter!
