Murrogun (Cryptocarya microneura) is one of at least 16 species of tree in the Laurel family occurring in our region.
The laurels are an important component of our rainforest and their fruits are sought after by many rainforest birds such as native pigeons and bowerbirds. Murrogun is a fairly common rainforest tree and can be seen in Sea Acres National Park, Bago Bluff National Park and Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park.
The Murrogun is a small to medium-sized tree to 25m tall and grows well in wet areas, but needs well-drained soil. Finely downy, unscented cream flowers in panicles in spring are followed by smallish bird-attracting shiny black fruits.
This tree is ideal for use in a windbreak.

Landcare nursery
While unavailable at the Landcare Nursery for a few years, many fruits from the Murrogun have been collected recently from a tree on Pacific Drive, and these will be propagated over the next few months.
