Port Macquarie Cleaner Following Successful Clean Up Australia Day

Have you noticed cleaner, litter-free public areas recently?

Port Macquarie showed up in numbers to support Australia’s biggest community-based clean up event, with over 30 registered groups collecting more than 900kg of waste from our public spaces on Clean Up Australia Day.

10kg of recycling was also collected, along with 10kg of other assorted waste such as tyres.

It was a great contribution from our region, on a day that saw 10,000 Clean Up Events and more than 750,000 volunteers helping reduce litter across Australia.

Pip Kiernan, the Chair of Clean Up Australia, said “As we continue to navigate our national waste challenges, the commitment of our amazing volunteers remains essential. Not only are they picking up litter, but their efforts also expose challenges with new waste streams as they emerge.”

Our local volunteers were spread across our region, covering Wauchope, Laurieton, Lake Cathie, Camden Haven and Port Macquarie. It was an outstanding effort by all our volunteers to help remove litter from our beaches, rivers, parks, schools and other public spaces and places.
