Biodiversity Month: Kooloonbung Creek Guided Tour

Celebrate Biodiversity Month by exploring the diverse habitats and wildlife of Kooloonbung Creek Nature Park.

Join Port Macquarie Hastings Council’s Ecologist and Biosecurity Officer along with volunteers from Friends of Kooloonbung Creek for a guided walk through this important urban habitat, home to a rich variety of native plants, animals and ecosystems.

You’ll discover the fascinating flora and fauna that call the park home, including threatened species such as koalas and flying foxes. Learn about the conservation of threatened ecological communities, wetlands and mangrove habitats, and gain a deeper understanding of the role these ecosystems play in supporting local biodiversity.

This walk is one of several Biodiversity Month activities designed to help our community connect with nature, learn from local experts and celebrate the unique natural environment of the Port Macquarie-Hastings region.

Meeting point: At the waterdragon sculpture (also known as The Big Lizard) – Gordon St, Port Macquarie

Public Transport: The reserve can be accessed by public transport. The nearest Busways stop is on Gordon Street adjoining the reserve.

Parking: The nearest accessible car parks are located with business at Dan Murphys car park and Chemist Warehouse car park. Both car parks are connected by footpaths to the reserve meeting spot. Additional disable car parks are also in Hayward Street.

Footpaths and Crossings: There is a fully connected footpath with kerb crossings from the accessible car parks within Dan Murphys (access to reserve via Gordon Street signaled pedestrian crossing) and along Gordon Street footpath from Chemist Warehouse car park.

Tour Route: The tour follows a timber boardwalk with some sections of gravel path. Most of the route is flat; however, some sections include stairs. Toilets: Toilets are available at the meeting point. The accessible toilet is MLAK key operated.
