Biodiversity Month: Port Macquarie Coastal Walk

Celebrate Biodiversity Month by exploring the diverse habitats and wildlife that share our coastline.

Join Port Macquarie Hastings Council’s Ecologist and Biosecurity Officer along with a volunteer from Port Macquarie Landcare for a guided tour along our Port Macquarie coastal walk from Flynn’s Beach to Shelley Beach.

This walk-and-talk will explore threatened species, littoral rainforest, coastal banksia, Silver Bush and other native flora, while discussing the management challenges of coastal environments, including weed control on steep slopes.

Meeting point: Flynn’s Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Tuppenny Rd, Port Macquarie. The walk will conclude at Shelley Beach Carpark, at the end of Shelley Beach Rd. Participants may wish to finish at this point or join the tour guides on the return walk back to Flynn’s Beach.

Walking distance: Approx. 2km (4km if returning to meeting point)

Tour route: The walk follows a mix of beach, coastal tracks and headland pathways from Flynn’s Beach to Shelley Beach. Participants should expect some uneven surfaces, inclines and stair sections along the route. Due to the terrain, this walk is not suitable for wheelchair users. Public transport: Local Busways bus routes run hourly from the town centre along Pacific Drive, with a 4 to 8-minute walk downhill to the meeting point.

Parking: Street parking is available along Tuppenny Rd. A dedicated, wide accessible parking bay is located next to the Flynns Beach Surf Life Saving Club, offering close entry to the reserve and beach ramp.
