Join us for an exciting evening as International Bat Night arrives in Port Macquarie, hosted by Charles Sturt University!

This event celebrates bats and their vital roles in our ecosystem. It promises a night of fun and education for all ages, featuring hands-on activities, interactive sessions with bat experts, and exciting bat detecting tours.

The evening will highlight community stakeholders passionate about bat conservation, including schools, local organizations, CSU environmental science groups and non-profit groups.

This event aims to:

  • Raise awareness of the 20 bat species in Guruk (Port Macquarie)
  • Inspire a greater appreciation for bats, dispel myths, and encourage conservation efforts locally.
  • Discover how bats regulate pests, pollinate, disperse seeds, and act as bioindicators.
  • Find out how we can support bat populations and benefit from them.
  • Build relationships with local stakeholders with an environmental focus.
  • Involve all ages in bat conservation with activities, Q&As, and bat detecting tours.

We’ll be hosting a pop up at the event where you can meet Frankie the Flying Fox, sign up to be a member of Frankie’s Fan Club, and learn all about the important role our local flying foxes (mega bats) play as keystone pollinators. View our Fan Club page to learn more.

'Spot the Sticker' and WIN!

Batteries can spark fires and don’t belong in any of our bins.

To help our community learn how to dispose of them safely we’re giving away a $50 gift card every week for 6 weeks.

Keep your eyes peeled for our “Don’t Bin Me” battery sticker on local waste trucks and you could score a $50 gift card! Click below to learn more about the competition and how to dispose of batteries safely.
