Painting in the Park – Flying Foxes

Celebrate Biodiversity Month with a unique outdoor art experience inspired by one of our region’s most fascinating native species.

Free session, open to local young people aged 12 – 18 years.

Join us for a free guided painting workshop where you’ll learn about the importance of Port Macquarie-Hastings’ local flying fox colony before creating your own artwork to take home.

Our Education team will share insights into the vital role flying foxes play in local ecosystems, including their contribution to pollination and seed dispersal. Participants will then be guided by an experienced art teacher from The Seed Art School to paint a pair of flying foxes resting in the canopy. Whether you’re a budding artist or simply enjoy being creative, this relaxed outdoor session is a great opportunity to learn, connect with nature and develop your painting skills.

What to bring:

  • Water bottle and snacks
  • Hat and sunscreen / sun protection
  • Closed-in shoes
  • Comfortable clothing, suitable for painting in

All art materials will be provided.

Parking and Accessibility
Free parking is available at Settlement Point Reserve, including accessible parking spaces. The reserve features flat grassed areas and accessible public amenities. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please contact us via education@pmhc.nsww.gov.au or 02 6581 8111 prior to the event so we can assist where possible.

Parent and Guardian Information

This is a supervised drop-off activity for young people aged 12 – 18 years. Parents and carers are welcome to stay and enjoy the reserve during the workshop but are not required to remain onsite. A parent, carer or authorised emergency contact must accompany participants under the age of 16 to sign in at the start of the session and collect them at the conclusion of the event. Emergency contact details must be provided during registration. As the event is being held at Settlement Point Reserve near the Hastings River, participants are required to remain within the designated activity area and follow all directions from Council staff and facilitators.
