Repair Workshop: Visible Mending
Don’t throw it out! You can save torn garments and get further wear out of your clothing.
In this workshop we will show you how to mend those garments that you would otherwise send to landfill. Repair and recycle clothing such as jeans, jackets, scarfs, socks and even upholstery using your own creativity.
Although mending can be achieved quickly with a sewing machine, not all of us always have a sewing machine on hand hence in this workshop all that is required is needle, thread, scissors, and scrap fabric to mend clothing.
The workshop will give you the basics to get started. We will show some simple Boro, Lace, Applique, Weaving and embroidery techniques to make your older worn garments look brand new.
Workshop Materials List
We will provide Beginner Kits in the workshop however you will also need:
Bees Wax (optional)
Chalk pencil or lead pencil
A few pins and safety pins (Applique pins preferred)
Fabric and thread if you prefer to chose your own colours (Stranded, Perle 8, 12wt and sashiko threads are our preferred threads)
Please feel free to bring a garment to the workshop and we can give you some advice for mending!
