It is the time of year when our beautiful bush becomes even more stunning with many of the Acacia species flowering, none is more stunning than the Fringed Wattle.
Versatile beauty
Acacia Fimbriata, also known as the Fringed Wattle, is part of the family Fabaceae and subfamily Mimosoideae. Its vibrant yellow flowers are a wonderful sight in almost any setting. In the garden it likes a sunny area but will tolerate most conditions and is frost hardy. It is a great screening plant but can also be made into a hedge. It can be used to help feed your other garden plants as it is a nitrogen fixer. This Acacia fimbriata responds well to pruning to keep the tree tidy compact and flowering profusely.
It grows naturally from Queensland to around Bega in NSW and can be found in open eucalypt woodlands and forests on hillsides, preferring well drained, moist sandy loams.
Tasty seed
Try it in a pot
Fringed Wattle does well in pots. Be sure to keep it in a sunny spot on a balcony or backyard. Use a high-quality potting mix without fillers or additives and add your own plant food for the highest success.
