What Doesn't Belong

There are some things that just don’t belong in any of our bins.

Harry Hastings is here to explain more:

As Harry says, some things like, batteries, are dangerous in our bins.

Other items need to be kept separate because, although they can be recycled, the machines in our MRF can’t process them properly.

Here are some of the items that should never go in your household bins:

Batteries

Batteries can be dropped off for free at your local waste transfer station. Many places you can buy batteries also offer to collect spent batteries for you. Check with your local retailer.

E-Waste

Mobile phones can be taken to Mobile Muster bins or, in many cases, back to the place of purchase. Other e-waste can be dropped off at your local waste transfer station.

Extinguishers & Gas Bottles

Gas bottle swap services are a great way to reduce waste and save money. Otherwise, empty gas bottles and extinguishers should be dropped off to your local waste transfer station.

Paint & Oils

If you have large amounts of paint, consider donating it to a local charity. Otherwise, paint or oil can be dropped off for free at your local waste transfer station.

Building Materials

If in good condition, you could try selling or giving these away. If not useable, these should be separated and taken to Cairncross Waste Management Facility.

Car Parts

Talk to your local second hand car yard, car ‘wreckers’ to see if these parts are useable. Otherwise, take them to your local waste transfer station.

There are lots of things that can be dropped off for free at your local waste transfer station.
These can be found on Port Macquarie-Hastings Council’s website by searching “Drop Off for Free”.

Time to get Harry’s waste sorted again!

Sort Harry’s waste by placing items in their correct bin OR, if they don’t belong in any bin, put them in the back of Harry’s truck so he can take them to his local waste transfer station.

Hit: Hover over the item to see what it is.

And that brings us to the end of your very first Hastings Waste Warriors module!
