Roll up your Sleeves for Cleaner and Greener Spaces this Clean Up Australia Day

a piece of rubbish being picked up on a beach

Did you know that on Clean Up Australia Day in 2022, 70.5% of rubbish found at beaches and along the coast in NSW was plastic?

This is a concerning figure, considering we know how much plastic can harm animals that live in or nearby the ocean.

With this in mind, are you ready to gear up and make a noticeable impact on local spaces? It’s time to register for this year’s Clean Up Australia Day!

Last year, the Port Macquarie Hastings region had 30 groups register and commit to scouring our parks and beaches to keep these spaces clean. Let’s see even more in 2024!

Registering early means you will receive a complimentary Clean Up kit, equipped with gloves, bags, and essential tools for the day. Whether you’re an individual, a business, part of a family, or a community group, there’s a pack tailored for you.

What makes the 2024 event even better is the switch to reusable bags made from 100% recycled content. This means Clean Up Australia Day’s bags save heaps of plastic by being recycled and aligns with our goal to reuse more and send less to landfill.

A few hours of your time can make a huge difference

Alternatively, explore the clean ups you can join on the day.

Council will arrange for all rubbish from registered sites and areas to be collected and disposed of appropriately.

The river is a critical habitat for marine life so it’s really important we look after the waterway and keep it healthy. Cleaning up your fishing spots by disposing of line, bait and any litter goes a long way in keeping our waterways pristine and marine animals happy.
