5th - 12th May
National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, partnering road safety organisations and Government. Running from 5 – 12 May, 2024, the week highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
Sunday 5th: Remember the 1200
Each year approximately 1200 people are killed and another 44,000 are seriously injured on Australian roads. National Road Safety Week is a time for us to remember those people who have experienced trauma on our roads and recognise actions we can all take to reduce it. The public is encouraged to take the pledge to “drive so others survive”.
Mon 6th: Your Road Safety Pledge
Take the pledge, make every journey safe. National Road Safety Week.
Tues 7th: Road Safety for the next generation
Road Safety starts with me. Whether you are a driver or passenger please call out unsafe behaviour.
Wed 8th: Protect those who protect and assist us
When you see emergency vehicles please slow down and give them space.
Thurs 9th: How safe is my car?
Think about safety when choosing a car. Keep your vehicle regularly maintained to a safe standard.
Fri 10th: Drive in the moment, avoid distraction
Remember to pre-plan your trip and stay focused on the road, avoiding distractions such as a mobile phone.
Sat 11th: Share the street. Keep everyone safe
Be safe, give them space: pedestrians, bicycle riders, motor bike riders and e-riders.
Sunday 12th: Take care and be aware on regional and rural roads
Slow down, be alert, and drive to the conditions.
